Charging Infrastructure for the Ore Mountains Region - Green Mobility on the Railway

Ladestation Annaberg

F&S PROZESSAUTOMATION GmbH, together with six further partners from industry and science (DB Energie, DB RegioNetz Infrastruktur / Erzgebirgsbahn, Rail Power Systems, Smart Rail Connectivity Campus, TU Dresden / Professorship Electrical Trains, Verkehrsbund Mittelsachsen), is advancing e-mobility in Saxony. The partners have joined forces under a cooperation agreement to set up an innovative charging station for battery-powered trains in Annaberg-Buchholz.

Particularly noteworthy is the fact that charging takes place at a charging frequency of 50 Hz instead of the usual 16.7 Hz. This solution, which has been thought through in detail, is characterized by its compact design and the significantly reduced investment costs compared to conventional solutions with frequency conversion. Furthermore, the small amount of space required makes it possible to set up the system without a planning process.

The installation is followed by the testing phase, in which the interactions between the rail vehicles and the loading infra-structure are first investigated, between charging infrastructure and feeding energy supplynetwork and the effects of the charging infrastructure on the existing rail infrastructure are investigated. Once the test phase has been successfully completed, regular operation for train journeys from Chemnitz is to follow.
